I bought a total of 4 books about the Low FODMAP diet. This book is by far the best one and the only one I recomend. Danielle Capalimo, the author makes it clear and easy to understand as well as how to incorporate the diet into everyday busy life styles. With examples and a meal plan for 7 days as well as easy recipes this is my go to book for sure.
I learned more from this book than all the doctors, specialists, gastroenterologists, and one unprofessional dietitian who asked why my husband couldn't eat apples, onions, and garlic. Then told us that wheat, barley, and rye didn't have gluten unless they were contaminated. No one explained anything thoroughly. We have figured out how to deal with the gluten free, dairy free, sugar free, low FODMAP diet with a few mistakes but were too afraid to start reintroducing foods because no one told us how. A Million thanks to the author of this book. I highly recommend it.
I bought this book to figure out healthy recipes that could help with my IBS. Half the book is not recipes and is a textbook detailing and identifying a food map. There are SEVEN (only 7?!?!?!) “main†recipes. This really irked me. The rest of the recipes are beverage, breakfast, and vegetable sides. Just extremely disappointing. The author knows what she’s talking about, but the amount of money I spent on this book, I was expecting more recipes, not a dietary lesson.
After my doctor recommended the low FODMAPs diet, I googled it and came away too intimidated to even bother trying. I started looking for low FODMAPs guide books nearly a year later when worsening health forced me to revisit the diet. Capalino's book was the roadmap I needed to pull it off. I love the combination of crystal clear content and pleasing formatting. I filled the book with sticky notes and carried it with me wherever I went for the first several weeks. The grocery list and recipes eased my anxiety about getting started. Now, nine weeks into the diet, I realize that none of the recipes in this book have even made it to my permanent rotation because I was able to tailor recipes and a meal plan to my personal taste once I got the hang of avoiding FODMAPs with Capalino's guidance. I think that anyone who feels intimidated by the low FODMAPs diet would benefit from this book. Oh, and the best part? I feel a LOT better!
I have been dying to read a clear, concise, well-written and well-illustrated book about the low-FODMAP diet. Danielle Capalino's book accomplished all of those things. Loved the book. Would recommend it to anyone.
I love love love this book! There's nothing worse than feeling weighed down by abdominal bloat and/or stomach pain - it can literally ruin an otherwise fun time. There's a lot of research that supports the implementation of a FODMAP diet to help reconcile these issues. Unfortunately, so many books on this topic can be either dense or overwhelming - and can paralyze you from actually doing anything with the information. Not this book! This book makes feeling good simple, easy, approachable and inspiring. As a Registered Dietitian, I will be recommending this book to many patients and as someone who struggles with her own GI issues, I will be recommending this book to many friends :)
I have just started to make recipes from this book. The photos are lovely, but in some cases they don't show food made according to the recipe instructions. Some examples: The Sauteed Bok Choy recipe calls for 2 cups chopped bok choy. The photo shows it cut in half lengthwise. Same for the Roasted Eggplant with Tahini. The recipe says to cut the eggplant into 1/2-inch thick rounds. The photo shows it cut in half lengthwise and dotted with some unknown tiny red balls not in the recipe. The Nicoise Salad does not call for potatoes, unlike the typical recipe for this salad. However, the photo has some white chunks in the dish that are most probably potatoes, and the capers and chives called for are nowhere to be seen. There are whole green beans in the photo, but the recipe says slice them. So, the photos are pretty, but your finished recipe won't look like the pictures..That's a little annoying. Otherwise, the book is initially helpful to start the FODMAP journey. I am going to rely on other books for more recipes.
Love this book! was trying to start a fodmap/elimination diet after over a year of issues but kept coming up short on enough information to feel comfortable enough to actually start one. This book finally gave me enough information about the foods that could be causing me issues, why they cause issues, and how to actually do the elimination phase of the diet! Everywhere I was looking before just basically gave me a list of no foods and yes foods with no explanation as to why or how I would ever try to reintroduce them! thanks so much for finally making it all clear to me! On my 3rd week of eliminating now, feeling loads better, and hoping to start introducing foods next week!
